Overview of class

This course explores the history of electronic music from the perspective of its performers,

technologies, and musical styles. Beginning with the advent of sound reproduction in the late 1800s,

we will survey the profound impact that electronics have had on the course of music history, covering

genres from rock ‘n' roll to techno to EDM. In-class learning is discussion-based, with the expectation

of weekly reading and listening outside of class time. Assessments will include in-class participation as

well as reading quizzes and three creative projects. The ability to read music is not required.
