Overview of class
The disconnect between traditional media and social issues is at the heart of this course. The course delves into the reality of the global industry and the changing norms of what is expected from longform journalism and what that means for those from the Global South who are intrinsically linked to the issues of concern. Students will learn about different forms of advocacy journalism and the fundamentals of the investigative process - a form of journalism that allows space to question norms, to restructure the media-source-audience relationships, and to produce original, impactful globally-facing work ethically and robustly.
