Overview of class
This course will provide a review of a few selected mathematical topics of relevance to the introductory graduate courses in Physics and Astronomy. The topics that will be covered are
1. Review of vector analysis and linear algebra, starting with a review of elementary vector analysis, and then moving on to finite-dimensional vector spaces and infinite dimensional vector spaces.
2. Complex variables and analysis. Starting with a review of complex variables, then moving on to sequences and series, complex functions, and evaluation of integrals.
3. Differential equations. Starting with ordinary differential equations, we will move on to partial differential equations and some special functions, time permitting.
The class will be based on lecture notes, and the primary focus of the course will be on complex analysis.
Evaluation Method
Grades will be based on weekly homework assignments, a midterm exam, and a final exam.
