Overview of class
This course offers a deep study of the work of Yoko Ono, one of the most influential and misunderstood artists of the contemporary era. This course will study her contributions to a range of forms including performance art, conceptual art, sculpture, poetics, popular music (rock and punk), and Asian American feminisms. We will engage scholarship and writing about Ono, while making use of a studio environment to enact, perform, and experiment with her work. Coinciding with a major retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, some sessions may be held at the MCA. Graduate students accepted with adjusted coursework.
