Overview of class
Installation Art is a hands-on course for filmmakers, artists, designers, engineers, and media theorists interested in exploring unconventional forms of media. Participants will create interactive installations using video, projection, VR, Arduino sensors, simple electronics, and even Kombucha.
No prior coding or electronics experience is needed. Students will learn to move beyond the screen and work with physical space using a range of tools and platforms.
The course emphasizes creative experimentation and critical making, challenging ideas like efficiency, productivity, and consumerism. Through readings, media examples, and DIY practices, students will prototype projects that blend art, tech, and activism.
Workshops include VR and Unity, Arduino, coding basics, projection design, bio art, and sculpture.
Learning Objectives
By the end of the course, you'll have the tools to create interactive media works that challenge the status quo and engage viewers in new, thought-provoking ways.
Class Materials (Required)
Arduino kits and necessary materials will be supplied by the RTVF department.
