Overview of class
In this class, we will study the fundamentals of writing a comedic teleplay from concept, logline, and treatment to story arc and episode outline. Through reading assignments, viewing coursework, and written exercises we will explore ways to write TV episodes suited to a variety of interests, tastes, and aesthetics. We will study sitcom examples from television's so-called "golden age," to programs from abroad, as well as how more emerging web-based forms are impacting television's landscape.

Learning Objectives
Over the course of the quarter each student will be expected to draft a treatment, episode outline, and write an original TV pilot script, which totals 30 pages in length. Attention will be paid to three act structure.
Teaching Method
There will be weekly assignments, which will include writing, reading, and viewing.
