Overview of class
In this course, students will learn about the film festival circuit and work collaboratively in small groups to write and produce short films to submit to a festival. Students will study the broader film festival market around the world and also attend fall film festivals in the Chicago region, including Chicago International Film Festival, Reeling: The Chicago LGBTQ+ Film Festival, Chicago International Children's Film Festival, Chicago South Asian Film Festival, and Chicago Underground Film Festival.
Learning Objectives
Students will leave the course with a clearer understanding of the film festival market and how it functions and will also learn to work collaboratively to produce their own short films.
Class Materials (Required)
There are no required textbooks, but students should be prepared to spend up to $100 for film festival tickets over the course of the quarter. Students must also have a $50 refundable equipment deposit on file with the equipment cage in Louis Hall. This is a pre-requisite for checking out the required equipment for class.
Class Notes
Students will be required to purchase tickets and attend film festival screenings in Chicago that happen outside of our assigned class time. Students will be offered multiple times and venues to accommodate scheduling.
