Overview of class

This seminar explores the evolving role of artificial intelligence in creative problem solving, examining how emerging technologies are reshaping the ways we generate, evaluate, and communicate ideas. Through critical readings, hands-on experimentation, and interdisciplinary discussion, students will investigate AI not just as a tool, but as a collaborator, provocateur, and mirror for human creativity. Topics include machine learning in ideation, generative design, algorithmic bias, and the ethics of co-creation. The seminar encourages students to engage with both the potentials and limitations of AI, questioning how these technologies influence authorship, intuition, and the nature of innovation. Students will develop research-based projects that interrogate or prototype new relationships between humans and machines in the design process. The course is ideal for PhD students interested in design research, HCI, creative practice, and the societal implications of intelligent systems in the creative domain.
