Overview of class

This is an introductory course on child and adolescent development. In this course, you will learn about children's and adolescents' biological, cognitive, social, and emotional development, with an emphasis on the role of social environments (e.g., family, peers, school, ethnic and cultural backgrounds) in these processes. The course will cover normative development (what are the typical changes that occur for children) and individual differences (how do children differ from one another and why). At the end of this course, you will be able to critically differentiate facts from myths regarding child and adolescent development and effectively evaluate related claims in academia, educational settings, popular media, and casual conversation.
