Overview of class
This course will invite students to think critically about sound and music from the perspective of: "What is music?" We all have personal experience with music, but are there boundaries of what qualifies as music? Is it even important to define these boundaries? This course will cover fundamentals of music and focus on strategies for active listening and analysis that can be applied to music of all kinds. By the end of the quarter, students will feel confident identifying and analyzing musical elements such as melody, register, texture, timbre, form, and more. No prior musical experience or ability to read music is necessary.
