Overview of class

Some arguments are good, some are bad. How can we tell which arguments are the good ones? We will answer this question in Elementary Logic. While being fundamental to Philosophy, students in a wide range of other academic disciplines—especially those considering law school—find logic, the study of good argumentation, to be useful.
In Elementary Logic we will examine two different logics: truth-functional logic and first-order logic. In doing so, we will learn how to use truth tabes, complete proofs and translate ordinary language arguments into a logical language in order to rigorously evaluate their validity.
