Overview of class

Hip-Hop is an artistic genre born from distinct political-economic circumstances. This is a quick-paced summer course designed to introduce students to a critical understanding of those circumstances and the genre in its first decade of existence (1980-1990). We will pay special attention to how the music and film industries helped to shape a culture and its political relevance.
