Overview of class
Musicianship for Actors is designed to develop a high level of musical literacy for every student actor, regardless of their incoming musical ability. The class aims to bridge the gap between the classroom and "real world" application of music reading and analysis through the practical application of the pitch elements of music (harmony and melody) and temporal elements of music (rhythm, meter, etc.). Daily class activities include sight-singing, ear training, keyboard application, improvisation, and critical listening - all in the context of musical analysis. Musical material will be drawn from the music theatre repertoire. Students will be placed in one of two levels (standard or accelerated); The class format utilizes one large, combined lecture (T 3-4:50), and one smaller interactive discussion and demonstration section (Th 3-4:20 (standard) & 4:30-5:50 (accelerated).
Registration Requirements
