Overview of class
This class provides an introduction to the institution of the Hollywood studio system,
concentrating on the 1930s, 40s, and 50s. Beyond a basic history of the studio era, we
also examine the foundations of classical Hollywood narration/style. Other topics will
include the star system, the production code, B-film production, and other issues that
impacted the look and story strategies of classical Hollywood cinema.
