Overview of class
Intro to Social Computing provides an introduction to the field of Social Computing, focusing on how social behaviors are influenced, supported, and analyzed through computing techniques and systems. Students will explore concepts such as network analysis, information diffusion, and sentiment analysis using hands-on tools like Communalytic, Gephi and Google Trends. The course offers practical skills in analyzing online social networks, tracking the spread of information, and understanding user behavior. In addition to technical aspects, it addresses critical societal issues such as misinformation, cyberbullying, and privacy concerns, providing a comprehensive view of the ethical and security implications in social media. By the end of the course, students will be equipped to conduct social media analytics and gain insights into future trends in social computing. The course is designed for students with no prior programming experience, emphasizing easy-to-use tools and practical applications.
