Overview of class
"Neighborhoods & Crime"
The concentration of crime in disadvantaged neighborhoods is one of sociology's most enduring findings. In this course, we will seek tounderstand why crime and the reach of the criminal legal system are unequally distributed across neighborhoods. To do so, we will critically examine how factors like neighborhood inequality, structure and organization, culture, and social-processes of neighborhood life relate to crime and formal and informal responses to crime.
This is a 300 level version of Spring 2024's SOCIOL 276 "Neighborhoods and Crime." If you took that class last spring, you will not be able to take this winter's SOCIOL 376 "Neighborhoods & Crime."
