Overview of class
This course will explore the dynamics of brain development during the second decade of life. We will discuss key changes that occur in the brain during adolescence, and how these changes impact multiple components of adolescent behavior. Over the course of the seminar, class topics will include hormones and puberty, self-control, risk-taking, learning and memory, emotion and emotion regulation, risk for mental health disorders, sensitivity to peers, and juvenile justice policy.
Registration Requirements
Priority for enrollment will be given to graduate students who are currently enrolled in the Psychology PhD program in WCAS. Advanced undergraduate students and graduate students in other programs will be considered for enrollment on a case-by-case basis, and if appropriate, they will receive a permission number to enroll if spots are available. Course enrollment will be capped to permit a seminar style.
