Overview of class

This is the second quarter of a two-quarter graduate sequence that will cover some aspects of condensed matter systems. The first quarter was devoted to crystals, X-ray scattering, the physics of electrons on a crystal lattice, including Bloch electrons, band structure, symmetries, semiclassical description of electrons in magnetic fields, and the Boltzmann equation description of electron transport. Towards the end, it will also introduce phonons. The second quarter continues with phonons, and then covers electron-electron interactions, electron-phonon interactions, scattering of electrons from impurities, and magnetism.
