Overview of class

This course focuses on theoretical and practical issues in data visualization and the application of regression models to data in language science. You will use the R statistical computing environment to develop reproducible workflows for visualizing and statistically analyzing real data sets (e.g., reaction times, error rates, scalar judgments), examining language structure at various levels (from sound to meaning), while accounting for variation across trials, participants, and items.

Graduate standing; one course in statistics

Learning Objectives

Through successfully completing this course, you will be able to:
1. Use the R statistical package to visualize data in language science.
2. Select the appropriate regression model for analysis of these data.
3. Use the R statistical package to build regression models of these data.
4. Critically evaluate regression model results.
5. Develop reproducible workflows to enable open language science.
