Overview of class
In this course students will create visual narratives which illustrate and explore strong points of view. We will survey comics, graphic novels, artists books, and print series which take a strong stand on topics of social justice, history, reportage, and scientific reason. Students will study pacing, sequence, graphic design, layout, and composition in order to optimize presentation of visual arguments. We will create bound editions of activist books utilizing reproducible 2d images in sequence, drawing, illustration, graphic design, printmaking, collage, painting, etc. The focus is on production and dissemination, therefore the output will be reproducible (offset, reprographic or print editions).
