Exploration of service operations as they apply to the complex organizations in which speech-language pathologists work, including healthcare organizations, school systems, multidisciplinary clinics, private practices, early intervention settings, and research labs. Overview of process and quality improvement methodologies. Focus on building efficient operations that deliver exceptional speech-language pathology services while effectively managing resources.
Learning Objectives
Upon successful completion of this course the student should be able to do the following:
1. Understand key concepts in healthcare operations that impact Speech Pathology.
2. Recognize improvement opportunities in Speech Pathology and the differences from research.
3. Apply Lean and Six Sigma Methodologies.
4. Build an improvement plan with methodologies and tools specific to the SLP or related industry.
5. Illustrate usage and interpret improvement data sets into improvement decision making.
6. Explore queuing theory applications in Speech Pathology.
7. Explain the importance of organizational culture and change management and how it can empower improvement and improve patient health outcomes.
8. Demonstrate how to show financial impact with an improvement project.
