Overview of class

A consideration of the extramusical outcomes related to music participation and engagement. With readings spanning from ethnomusicology to childhood development, this seminar will give space to conceptualize the benefits and limitations of what music can offer, as drawn from these bodies of research and scholarship.

Registration Requirements

Graduate student or upper-level standing undergraduates.

Learning Objectives

● To give attention extramusical outcomes pertaining to music and its study
● To understand what empirical research supports in this regard
● To review scholarship and summarize findings pertaining to the course topic
