Overview of class
Colonial Latin American Literature
TThis course provides an overview of literary and other writing in Latin America up to the emergence of the republics in the 19th century. Our goal is to think critically about the materials and the periods studied, while also strengthening oral and written Spanish skills. We will balance close readings with discussions on larger issues, such as indigeneity, colonialism, the limits of historical representation, and the emergence of continental and national identities.
