Overview of class

The topic of this seminar is epistemic normativity. We will discuss the sources of epistemic normativity and the nature of epistemic norms. After discussing various accounts of these matters, we will explore applications to topics such as evidence and reasons, rationality, and (alleged) epistemic duties and responsibilities.

Learning Objectives

The objectives of the course are threefold: (1) to familiarize students with the main views on the source and nature of epistemic normativity, and their application to various topics in contemporary epistemology; (2) to equip students with the capacity to discuss these matters in detail; and (3) to give students the opportunity to write a "publishable" journal-length paper on a relevant topic.
