Overview of class
Quantum mechanics, electronic structure, periodic properties of the elements, chemical bonding, thermodynamics, gas laws, intermolecular forces, properties of solids and liquids. Must be taken concurrently with the Chem 161-0 laboratory course. Prerequisite: Permission of the Chemistry Department by placement assessment. Registration Requirements
Eligibility for this course is determined by Chemistry's Initial Assessment; with the exception that students who received a score of 5 on the AP Chemistry exam are ineligible for CHEM 151. Students who took the Initial Assessment, placed into CHEM 151, and do not have an AP 5 in Chemistry can enroll directly. Students should contact chemhelp@northwestern.edu if they have: a) not taken the Initial Assessment or b) placed into CHEM 151 but have an AP 5 in Chemistry.
Co-requisite: Must be taken concurrently with the Chem 161-0 laboratory course at the same lecture time.

Enrollment Requirements: Co-Requisite: Students registering for Chem 151-0 01 at 9AM must also register for Chemistry 161-0 01 at 9AM.
