Overview of class

This class focuses on color categorization, association and harmonization in pre and postmodern art. This class is intended to complement design-based approaches to color and build a fundamental relationship to material through intuitive, empirical, investigatory research and discussion. Class time will be spent discussing readings, experimenting with color, and critique. Students will draw, collage, and keep a journal as part of a lifelong process of creative introspection. This class recognizes that art making is a personal investigation that requires a developmental period distinct from, and complementary to, the period of time required to learn manual skills.
