Overview of class
Digital media has significantly influenced people's lives in the way they connect, collaborate, and work. Throughout the years we have witnessed digital media evolve and transform the world as we know it to an intricate system where we communicate in various online and social media platforms where we create our own facework. Digital media has enabled unprecedented levels of communication, community building, and social interaction globally, both negatively and positively.
The course is conducted completely online. A technology fee will be added to tuition.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this course, you will be able to:
Describe and analyze how digital media has evolved to the present.
Apply the knowledge of signals (both positive and negative) of digital communication.
Define the digital divide and describe efforts being made to bridge the equity gap.
Describe and apply Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs through the lens of digital media.
Describe the phenomenon of catfishing in alignment with Ervin Goffman's theory on face work.
Explain and illustrate the concept of the social media community.
Explain and illustrate the impact of social media influencing.
