Overview of class
In this class, students will learn the fundamental approaches to crafting workplace narratives across genres— from West World to Abbott Elementary to Monsters Inc. This will be done through weekly viewings, readings, discussions, writing assignments, and workshops. Extra attention will be given to the the art of world-building, character development, and relationship dynamics within a range of professional settings. By the end of the quarter, students will be able to understand/navigate the many nuances of workplace storytelling. Students will workshop their own workplace screenplay (20+ pages), and submit an edited draft of their screenplay for their final.
Class Materials (Required)
Screenwriting software (free options are available), Laptop or device to read from Canvas during class, Hulu/Netflix/Amazon Prime/MAX subscription, all reading materials will be provided on Canvas, in some cases students may need to rent a digital film online ($3-$4)
Enrollment Requirements
Enrollment Requirements: Students must have completed RTVF 260-0 in order to register for this course (concurrent registration is not allowed) or students in Writing: MFA or Documentary Media: MFA programs
