Overview of class

In this course, we will investigate various entry points into the generative process of movement improvisation. Along with simple and complex movement improvisation games and movement ideas, we will use scores—movement, musical, sonic, and those we create ourselves—as collaborative guides to discover and actively interrogate our movement choices, voices, and vocabularies. Our goal will be to explore improvisation as not only a generative and compositional tool in dance-making but also one that invites dynamic play. Throughout the course, we will keep weekly journals to reflect on our processes and practices and also create video archives of our explorations.
