Overview of class
The Federal Appellate Practice Clinic is open to 3L/3J students, who will research, brief, and argue cases in federal appellate courts across the country. Our appeals will generally be in civil rights, including police misconduct, prisoners' rights, immigration, and criminal sentencing. Seminars will cover the structure and mechanics of writing appellate briefs and oral argument, including mooting students for their oral arguments, and feature guest speakers discussing their substantive area of law and career paths. This Clinic, in its work, clients, and guest speakers, aims to diversify the appellate law practice, particularly by including voices and experiences from backgrounds traditionally underrepresented in the practice of law. Students of all class years are welcome to sit in on the class—please email danielle.hamilton@law.northwestern.edu for the class schedule.
