Overview of class
In an increasingly challenging and fluid media ecosystem, innovation is increasingly essential for media companies looking to survive and thrive! To innovate successfully, media organizations must adopt a disciplined approach to innovation that prioritizes audience needs along with commercial thinking to identify valuable solutions that deliver tangible outcomes for customers and the business. This course covers the different types of innovation, design thinking, and business models with an emphasis on news media organizations and products. Students will learn to recognize different types of innovation and utilize human-centered design to identify audience needs, develop valuable digital media products, and identify the appropriate revenue models to take innovative products to market, culminating in a pitch to sell their vision.
