Overview of class
The United States' population is becoming ever-more diverse. According to the Census Bureau, racial and ethnic minorities will comprise a majority of the population within our lifetimes—by 2042. This course will explore how diversity shapes policy debates and choices in the U. S., and also how policies in turn contribute to racial and ethnic diversity. The focus will be on contemporary issues; however we will be sure to cover the historical roots of race and public policy. We will cover such topics as immigration reform, school choice, residential segregation, and criminal justice.
