Overview of class
This course surveys methods and theories for dance research, drawing case studies from theatrical and social dance in varied times and places. Students will gain broad and deep familiarity with foundational methods for critical dance studies, including analysis of movement style and choreography, ethnographic "thick description," historical approaches to embodiment and spectatorship, and theories of corporeality. Intended for advanced undergraduates and graduate students.
