Overview of class
This course will introduce you to fundamental film/video narrative fiction techniques, including double-system sync-sound production and more sophisticate lighting and cinematography concepts and techniques. We will explore and practice these techniques through lectures/discussions, exercises, project assignments, and labs. Emphasis will be placed on developing your own voice as a storyteller and the ability to create works characterized by simple yet effective visual, aural and narrative structural elements. You will be graded on exercises and a main project, all produced in small working groups. Beyond the acquisition of practical technical skills, these projects are also designed to allow you to explore the fertile playground where documentary and fiction practices meet.

By the end of this class you should have a basic understanding of fiction narrative film grammar and aesthetics as they apply to story production as a documentarian.
