Overview of class
Students will learn the fundamental approaches to writing stories told through a lens of Magical Realism. This will be done through weekly viewings, readings, discussions, writing assignments, and workshops. By the end of the quarter, students will be able to understand/articulate the various approaches to Magical Realism as not only a narrative device but also as a tool of political and social commentary. Throughout the quarter, they will workshop their own Magical Realism screenplay (25+ pages)— and submit an edited draft of their screenplay for their final.
