Overview of class
In this course, we will explore and analyze contemporary musicals written for TV, stage and film in order to identify a range of narrative structures and content. We will also be engaging in writing exercises on world building, themes, plots, character, scene/book writing and lyric writing. These exercises will build toward a final project of a 30 page musical which will be workshopped in class. We will also discuss the unique challenges of collaborating on a musical as we read/watch and discuss interviews with contemporary book writers, lyricists, and composers.
