Overview of class

This experiential course is designed as an investigation of elementary and middle school choral programs and participants. It will provide you with an overview of the multifaceted nature of choral teaching and learning and provide a foundation for the construction of your own beliefs and practices as a teacher. Topics covered include (but are not limited to) rehearsal techniques, repertoire, voicing, curriculum design, classroom management, learning styles, teaching strategies, and the changing voice. Students will experience application of their studies through assigned projects and practicum placements which shall be determined at the beginning of the class term. Readings, assignments and classwork will provide you with practical tools to ensure that what you do on and off the podium reflects best practices to develop an outstanding, thriving choral program applicable in any teaching format and at any educational level.
