Overview of class

This course emphasizes the critical practices of ethical journalism and deadline reporting and writing and builds a strong foundation for all Medill classes. It introduces students to the essentials of accurate journalism regardless of platform or storytelling format. Special attention is given to news and information gathering (including sourcing, interviewing techniques and practices of inclusion and sensitivity), writing, grammar, AP Style and ethical decision-making. The course introduces students to a wide range of story types and career paths in media.
