Overview of class
This is a seminar course for PhD students that will include hands-on experience interacting with Buddhist scholars and the process of providing scientific training for such scholars, leading to collaborative research. Students should already have a deep familiarity with cognitive neuroscience and at least some knowledge of philosophy of mind from a Buddhist perspective. Useful background could be acquired in Professor Grabowecky's course on Buddhist Psychology (Psych 249). Our approach will be one allied with the views expressed in Evan Thompson's (2015) book, "Waking, Dreaming, Being: Self and Consciousness in Neuroscience, Meditation, and Philosophy."
