Overview of class
This course will introduce students to the application of statistics to sports, by drawing on literature from sport psychology and statistical applications from the behavioral sciences. A special emphasis will be placed on understanding how basic statistical procedures can aid in objective evaluation of individuals and teams as well as the prediction of outcomes in sporting events. Class meetings will include a mix of lecture, activities, and discussion. Students will also be expected to complete a research project in sports analytics. Readings will include a variety of primary sources.
