Overview of class
This course introduces students to foundational production and post-production concepts and techniques through a series of hands-on projects. Through lectures, labs, screenings, readings, discussions, and individual and group assignments, students will develop the basic skills needed to create a range of media projects. Because our filmmaking practice doesn't exist in isolation, we will also critically interrogate contemporary artistic and film industry practices (including how they are affected by race, gender, and class). This course is intended to provide a supportive environment where students are encouraged to take risks and experiment as they discover their voice as visual storytellers. Students will have opportunities to work both individually and collaboratively.
