Overview of class

This course will introduce students to the fundamentals of digital non-linear editing. The emphasis of the course will be hands-on practice through a series of projects. There will be several screenings, a substantial amount of reading, and a significant amount of time spent in the lab editing projects. Most importantly, this class is the first step toward finding your own voice as an editor. The four core projects will offer experience with experimental, documentary, and narrative editing strategies and techniques, including continuity, associative and expressionistic styles and systems. They are designed to develop conceptual and technical skills, as well as strategies necessary to provide a foundation for further exploration. You will be graded on your ability to satisfactorily complete these projects in the time frame allotted, as well as through attendance, discussion participation, and pop-quizzes.
