Overview of class

This course is devoted to learning and practicing the qualitative methods of participant-observation and interviewing. It is the first in a two-course sequence intended to teach professional-level qualitative research skills. While this quarter's work is designed to be part of a larger research experience, students are allowed to take the first quarter without the second if necessary.
