Overview of class

Delivering "all the news that's fit to print" takes a lot of work -- and not just in terms of reporting and writing. In order to make news accessible to audiences and serve the public good, news publishers must effectively and efficiently manage the business of journalism - a complex system with a lot of moving parts. This course covers the essential components at the core of news publishing ranging from production, distribution, revenue generation, technology and innovation with a focus on understanding how the business of journalism evolved over time. In addition, the course examines the current challenges the industry faces with an emphasis on how the business of journalism can adapt to changing consumer, societal and macroeconomic trends.
