Overview of class

This graduate-level class will provide an introduction to the concepts of gate-based quantum computing. Topics to be discussed: a brief glance at complexity theory, decomposition of arbitrary unitaries into gates, universality of gate sets, quantum algorithms (including Grover's and Shor's algorithm in detail), introduction to quantum error correction. The class will loosely follow the quantum computing textbook by Nielsen and Chuang. (Lecture notes will be made available, the book is not required.)

Prerequisites for success in this class are solid knowledge of basic linear algebra, and quantum mechanics (as studied at the advanced undergraduate level).
