Overview of class

The goal of studying public finance is to understand the proper role of the government in the economy. In this class, among other topics, we will examine the theoretical and empirical effects of programs that target the poor such as the Earned Income Tax Credit and welfare reform, investigate the impact of income taxation on labor supply and savings, and discuss the general theory of social insurance, the U.S. health care system, and health care reform.

Enrollment Requirements: Pre-requisite: Students must have taken ECON 310-1 or MMSS 211-1 and ECON 281 or ECON 381-1 or MATH 386-1 or IEMS 304 or STAT 350 to successfully enroll in this course.
