Overview of class

This course provides perspectives on a variety of contemporary music education practices, including relevant technologies, popular music pedagogy, and critical educational issues. This course focuses on sociocultural and constructivist practices that emphasize student success through student centered, culturally relevant approaches to music.

Learning Objectives

Students will demonstrate the ability to teach music to students, K-12 settings and community ensembles, using relevant technologies. Students will demonstrate the ability to teach popular music to students in K-12 settings and community ensembles. Classroom writing assignments are based on music teaching pedagogies and approaches, planning, curriculum, assessment, and the sequencing of skills in teaching music across various populations.
