Overview of class
This course is an analysis of ethical and political issues related to health and health care. Topics to be considered include human research, abortion, euthanasia, genetic engineering, and public health ethics. We will devote special attention to ethical issues arising due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Learning Objectives
Participation in this course will help you: (1) Understand the core principles of contemporary bioethics, and how these principles sometimes conflict in clinical and research contexts. (2) Gain a broader awareness of ethical problems related to biotechnology. (3) Acquire proficiency in recognizing, reconstructing, and critically evaluating moral and political arguments. (4) Develop and defend your own answers to important bioethical questions.

The 3rd or 4th editions of this textbook are also acceptable and can usually be found at lower cost than the latest 5th edition.
