Overview of class

This course provides a seminar-level introduction to core concepts and emerging questions in Cognitive Science, with priority for Cognitive Science Majors. We will immerse ourselves in current topics and research in the area, with a particular focus on cognitive science research as conducted here at Northwestern.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course, students should be able to:
1. Describe and reflect on the overarching questions driving classic and contemporary research in Cognitive Science.
2. Summarize research studies from the primary research literature in the allied fields comprising Cognitive Science, and reflect on their findings. Propose new research questions to follow up on previous findings.
3. Present on classic and contemporary Cognitive Science topics. Describe methods and research approaches in the field.
4. Engage with faculty and researchers conducting studies in Cognitive Science at Northwestern. Formulate questions and comments to contribute to class discussions with researchers.

Teaching Method

Most classes will include readings of recent research articles in conjunction with informal presentations/Q&A sessions by Northwestern faculty, along with class discussions and written reactions to course topics.

Evaluation Method

Weekly reaction papers, discussion questions, class participation. Group presentations. Final paper.
