Simona S. Citron is a CPA with a MBA (specialization in Finance) from The University of Chicago. She is a seasoned course developer and professor in the area of accounting and finance, and the Co-Founder, CFO and Director of Marketing for Hope¿s Closet, Inc., a start-up company that is first to market in chic and functional clothing for scoliosis brace wearers. She serves on the board of directors of the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center. Her interests include writing (she served as art editor and writer for Roy Leonard's Going Out Guide) and art (serves as an art consultant/broker with a primary focus on 18th-Early 20th century works) She enjoys kick-boxing, yoga, and spin cycling.

Overview of class

Accounting theory and concepts; analysis of special problems that arise in applying these underlying concepts to financial accounting. Accounting information as a basis for decisions by management, stockholders, creditors, and other users of financial and accounting reports.

This course is conducted completely online. A technology fee will be added to tuition.

Registration Requirements

Prerequisite: ACCOUNT 202.

Learning Objectives

The goals of this course are to:
- Apply the conceptual framework underlying financial reporting that serves as a basis for preparing financial statements.
- Analyze relevant accounting information to assist in preparing a set of financial statements: income statement, balance sheet, statement of cash flows, and statement of retained earnings.
- Evaluate the proper reporting of cash including the valuation and assessment of collectability of receivables.
- Assess various inventory valuation cost flow assumptions and estimation concepts used to develop relevant inventory information.
- Analyze the proper accounting for the acquisition, use, depreciation, and disposition of property, plant, equipment, and natural resources.
- Evaluate the process for reporting of intangible assets including research and development expenditures for a business.
